Turtles

While driving through the parking lot we saw a lady selling fresh water turtles. Lukas immediately decided that he needed one. I made him get out and ask the lady how much they were. $20. He said he only had $10 but he really wanted one. After some discussion with Drue, who has more money than any of us, they decided to split the cost of the turtle. We checked with Dad and got an ok. Lance and I went up to the table, as they were selling Rotweilers (sp) right next to the turtles and the kids were scared to death, and inquired about the life span and difficulting in raising turtles. They are pretty easy to care for, BUT they don't really like to be alone. Of course not! Sooooo, the older kids bought one turtle and Mom and Dad bought another turtle for the younger two as they don't have money to spend. At home we gave the bigger turtle to the boys and the smaller turtle to the girls. Hopefully, these will last longer than our fish.

Of course you can't have only one turtle! Is it true? You should make the kids do a research project to find out if you were swindled or not!

I think it's a good research project, too. However (not to be the fuddy duddy and ruin the fun) part of the research should be finding out if these are the turtles that carry Salmonella(sp). We had some friends that bought turtles on the side of the road only to find out they carry yucky bacteria! Hope it's not this kind. I hate to rain on people's parades! I know, I know, I take the fun out of everything!
